Glasses guide
Glasses for a Diamond Face Shape
A commonly used rule of thumb among opticians is to choose a frame shape that contrasts with your face shape rather than mirrors it — for example, adding angles where a face is soft and curves where a face is angular. A common styling goal is to add width near the forehead and jaw to soften the sharp emphasis on the cheekbones, creating a more oval-like overall impression.
Frame shapes to look for
Do
- Oval or rimless frames tend to soften angular cheekbones without adding competing sharp lines.
- Frames with detail along the brow line can add width to a narrower forehead.
Avoid
- Narrow frames that sit entirely within the width of the cheekbones can make the eye area look pinched.
- Heavily geometric frames can add to an already angular look.
A few more fitting tips
- Frame width should generally line up with the widest part of your face, not extend noticeably beyond it.
- Eyebrows are typically most visible just above or at the top of the frame, rather than hidden behind it.
- Frame color and material (bold plastic vs. thin metal) can soften or sharpen a look independent of the frame’s outline shape.
